DAY 1 - 16 FEB 2013
Today is the first day of the IB Diploma Program Training in Hyderabad, India. I am in CAS (Creativity, Action, and Services) class as I will be its coordinator in the school I'm teaching at. I am honestly very sleepy since morning because I just arrived with my team at 11pm last night and couldn't sleep well after that. However, I've learnt many valuable lessons from today's CAS session, both from Mr. Jonathan Hamilton as our facilitator and the other participants in this class who are very active.
Today I have learnt the basic information of CAS, such as why CAS, What are creativity, action, and service, the examples of the program, and how to conduct CAS in our own school. I also got valuable references that I can use for CAS program and actually jotted down some ideas that came into my mind as I was doing today's activities. It makes me excited in conducting CAS in the school. Hopefully tomorrow I can get more information :)
One of the reflection today :
I am thinking of the CAS programme from the point of view of a principal. I think CAS has to be related with any other subjects and events in my school so that they will not overlap each other. A question I have from this viewpoint is : how can you integrate CAS into the other subjects and events in shool?
I am also thinking of CAS program from the students point of view. I think CAS is very good but it is also very new for me. A question I have from this viewpoint is: how to determine whether one activity is CAS and the other is not?
DAY 2 - 17 FEB 2013
Questions to ask the students about their learning outcomes :
* What do you learn from this project?
* How are you challenged in this project?
* Do you learn a global value from it?
etc.
Links between CAS and TOK
3 ideas :
* ummm..i'm still not clear about this..I'll read more about this...
Today's reflection :
surely got a lot today! eventhough i am still sleepy cause of lack of sleep but the sessions are so insightful! Learned about how as CAS coordinators we should brief the students about international mindedness, different perspectives, empathy towards their targeted population or community, etc. Will surely write more about this later :) Time to go to Golconda Ford now. Excited!
